I love epic cars and this is one of them – a Porsche 356 Speedster from the late 1950s. It appears to have been re-imagined a little as the rims, paint, some body work and Porsche hood badge all look recent… but really who cares! This is in Wailea, Hawaii at the Marriott on a stunning morning with just the right sunlight washing over the Porsche. You know how well kept the car is when you can see my reflection in the perfectly polished paint of the rear quarter panel. Would you like to join me for a drive?

Back to summer 2019 when walking a car show was reality in our lives! What does this interior remind you of? For me it feels like a classic dinner with the red bar stools and a jukebox playing a track for everyone to hear. This 1949 Chevy Club Coupe is so well customized and maintained… stare closely to find the compass, skeleton figurine hanging by its hat, the Ace of Spades, singers microphone, and if your really good, the skull and cross bones for the locking door button (bottom left of photo, slightly blurred). According to Wikipedia these were assembled here in Oshawa, came with a 3 speed manual, and delivered 90 horsepower (really?)
Do you know this car? Let me share a little… Car enthusiasts love the Porsche 911 from 1989 through 1994. Buy one of these pre-owned for between $65K and $170K Canadian and then give it to Singer Vehicle Design in California who will custom restore – or reimagine as they say – as a one off for an additional sweet $475K up to $1.8M US. This here is ‘Malaysia’ (cars get named after global cities or countries) and I found her at the Toronto car show courtesy of Pfaff Automotive Partners (a Toronto auto dealer group). Now I knew of Singer before hand and in my dreams have commissioned a car from them… but in real life not so lucky! Next best is to be able to photograph one. Something tells me this vintage Ford yellow cab has it on Uber when it comes to style and price! At 5 cents per mile – check out the price on the door – it will surely be hard to beat.
The Thunderbird had its many highs and lows over the years (like the final version from 2005 – yuk!). This 1957 model is truly amazing, and this particular version on show in Baysville, Ontario was in mint condition. How about all that fine chrome across the dash! I really like what Tesla is doing, however there is something to be said for the simplicity seen here.
