Tourists sunbathing on the rocks in 16th Century Dubrovnik, Croatia back in 2015

16th century dubrovnik croatia on the rocks
Remember life before COVID-19? Tourists sunbathing on the rocks in Dubrovnik, Croatia back in 2015.

We are traveling virtually again this post back to 2015 visiting Dubrovnik, Croatia. A well preserved 16th century city on the Adriatic in the southern end of Croatia, Dubrovnik is an incredible step back in time. It was almost destroyed (1667 earthquake), controlled by the French, then Italians, Austrians, and finally Yugoslavia. In 1991 the city endured considerable shelling as Yugoslavia came apart. When walking the streets and alleys within the walled city you will read stories on the walls of what shelling occurred and what business or cultural place was sadly hit. Here we have a wonderful rest spot outside the fortress walls on the rocks by the Adriatic. Looking at this today while in COVID-19 lockdown is surreal, yet its also a glimpse into what we have to look forward to.

Vancouver Sea Village Featuring Houseboat Homes Along False Creek

People’s houseboat homes along Vancouver’s False Creek

Time to begin virtually traveling the world while we all take a pause and self-hibernate (sometimes I do feel like a bear hanging out in his den waiting for spring!) First stop is beautiful Vancouver and a look at Sea Village, a lifestyle community of houseboat homes along False Creek. These folks have the best of both worlds… living in the city and on the water. I gather keeping 6ft apart while walking on the dock to get groceries is difficult, however picture sitting at the end of the dock in front of your place watching life slowly pass by!

Vancouver’s Granville Island and Bridges Restaurant from Burrard Street Bridge

While in Vancouver for work late September, was able to find time for an afternoon walk along the board walk and partway across the Burrard Street Bridge for this picture. We are looking into False Creek, Granville Island and the (famous?) Bridges restaurant painted yellow. Vancouver is a pretty sweet city to visit, particularly on days like this with the fresh ocean air.

This is how you celebrate a goal at a soccer match… with smoke bombs, drums, oversized flags, and lots of cheering! Hamilton scored the tying goal for Toronto FC at 90+5 minutes of the game on June 7, 2019.  Find the guy in the red/white/black shirt holding a smoker stick 🙂

Downtown Toronto From High Atop CN Tower

This is one fantastic sunset view of Toronto from CN Tower looking north. We have the Fairmont Royal York hotel bottom right, Roy Thomson Hall, all the bank buildings, Toronto City Hall, and every other building along Yonge street until the horizon ends.

Intently Watching The Street During Afternoon Coffee Break in Croatia

croatian man having coffee break at outdoor cafe
Makarska is a lovely town in Croatia along the Adriatic coast with many opportunities for people watching from one of its restaurants or cafes. This Croatian man – enjoying a coffee and water – had an intense look as he gazed the street. And at the moment I pressed the shutter, he turned and caught the camera’s eye.

Had the opportunity two weeks ago to view Toronto’s distinct skyline from the rooftop of the Park Hyatt hotel. There is an outdoor lounge perfectly situated looking south along Avenue Road that allows for this panoramic view of the city.

Feeling Moody – The skies over Hong Kong’s skyline

Hong Kong has a dramatic skyline, day or night. On this morning, the skies looked rough, making Hong Kong appear somewhat moody (or hung over after a fun night?).

Majestic old city of Dubrovnik, Croatia, as seen through a gun turret

Dubrovnik is a very beautiful city with such rich character. Here we see the old city through a gun turret on the perimeter wall. I gather it was in use during the war 20 years ago, as evidence by the few areas of destruction that remain.
