Comet NEOWISE on July 24, 2020 at around 11pm over the cottages
Comet NEOWISE was discovered only in March of this year using the Neowise space telescope. Astronomers have determined its route brings it back to Earth in roughly 7,000 more years – really??? Here we are July 24, one day after it’s closest position to our planet, with a perfectly clear sky and no moon. I’m outside at 10pm scanning the sky with binoculars to find this comet and for the first half nothing… I had read it will appear below the Big Dipper and still nothing. More time passes and now its really dark and then BAM!! There it is and I can see it with the naked eye and with the binoculars… holy smoke that’s cool!
Merry Christmas and best wishes to your family and friends. I tried to get the natural elegance of this house to come through, and not sure the picture does it full justice. Light snow and low clouds are providing the nice glow. And kind of wish I could pull that telephone pole out… but maybe that’s what helps make this house feel ‘real’ in the neighborhood.
Fantastic performance by Johnny Reid this past week in St. Catharines, singing only Christmas songs from his ‘My Kind of Christmas’ tour. This was my first introduction to Johnny Reid and will say he did not disappoint. More than any singer I’ve seen – ok similar to Sarah McLachlan – he has a way of involving the audience that makes you feel part of the show. Guess it helps there were a cozy 3,500 people in the arena 🙂
This is Kilauea’s burning crater from January 2017. It was a beautiful night with some activity in the crater as seen by the light flash in the image… this is lava bubbling up. One year later and Kilauea is erupting again with new lava flows.
Just in time for Halloween, I share the Haunted Halloween Harvest Moon for your spooky pleasure! Sure feels like ghosts and goblins are flying through the night. What we really have here is the Thanksgiving full moon passing behind leaves dangling from a tree around 11pm at night. Boo!!!
The Eiffel Tower is one of those iconic symbols that is mesmerizing to look at, day and night. Was in Paris for a work event, taking time to tour the city before things got started. This is looking South East from the edge of Jardins du Trocadero across Pont d’Iena, using a 3.2 second time lapse to create the blurring light effect from car taillights.
Capturing a meteor shooting through the milky way from the back deck of the cottage on Grandview Lake, Muskoka. Dark outline to right are the tree tops.
