Fresh Powder in the Corkscrew Glades at Big White Ski Resort

corkscrew glades at big white ski resort
I find this picture both calming and exhilarating at the same time. The stillness of the air and clarity across the snow and between the trees, plus the depth of view makes it easy to look at and pretend you are there in person. And then there is the adrenaline rush from making first tracks through snow as your heart beats, legs ache, and you are screaming with delight in your head!

The view back up ‘Village Way’ ski run with peak of Big White Mountain in background, and high alpine skiable terrain.  Highly recommend this back country mountain on the border of the Kootenay region British Columbia, for the pure fun of skiing.

30 Minutes To Sunrise Atop Haleakala Crater At 10,000 Ft.

haleakala crater maui hawaii sunrise
Sweet! We awoke at 2:30am and were in the car by 3am on our way to the peak of Haleakala Crater in Maui. A steep switch back road with no street lights or guardrails, you climb for hours, breaking through the ceiling of clouds, and reaching the main lookout shortly after 5am. Patiently waiting until dawn breaks, we were rewarded with almost an hours’ worth of changing light until finally the sun broke the horizon. This picture, about half hour before sunrise, has the moon and stars still visible, while the early glow of the sun spreads across the clouds (sitting below the horizon).

Sunset at 35,000 feet on way to Aruba

sunset at thirty five thousand feet on way to aruba
Right place at the right time, particularly if your seat was on the West side of the plane! (Feel bad for the East facing folks!)  We were treated to an ever evolving sunset as we cruised at 35,000 feet on way to Aruba.  Dare you to step out and walk across the clouds 🙂  (My spouse took the picture, while I did the post processing)

Sun setting across sailboat in Sea of Abaco, Bahamas

sun setting across sailboat in the sea of abaco, bahamas
Sun sets are a favorite of mine because of the many colors, the emotion, and shadows that are created. Here we are anchored in a bay within the Sea Of Abaco, north Bahamas, having dinner on our boat, watching the sun set across our neighbor.

Feeling Moody – The skies over Hong Kong’s skyline

hong kong skyline
Hong Kong has a dramatic skyline, day or night. On this morning, the skies looked rough, making Hong Kong appear somewhat moody (or hung over after a fun night?).
